Domaine Alain Normand
Alain Normand, a "Norseman" from the Loire Valley with roots in Normandy, ventured into winemaking in the 1990s with Sylvaine, a Burgundian, taking over an abandoned vineyard in La Roche-Vineuse. Their approach focuses on natural winemaking, relying on spontaneous ferments and extended lees aging. The estate, Domaine Sylvaine & Alain Normand, now spans 86 acres across appellations like Bourgogne, Mâcon, Saint Véran, and Pouilly-Fuissé. Moving towards organic viticulture, they anticipate full certification in 2024. In 2017, they transitioned to a modern winery outside La Roche-Vineuse, streamlining production. Notably, with the 2020 vintage, Sylvaine's inheritance, a 2.5-acre parcel in Solutré's Au Vignerais, gained premier cru status in Pouilly-Fuissé. Their son Thomas, after enology studies, joined the domaine in 2023, marking a three-decade journey since Sylvaine and Alain met at the Beaune wine school.
