Domaine du Grand Bourjassot

France (3).png

Domaine du Grand Bourjassot, established in 1993 by Pierre and Marie-Claude Varenne in Gigondas, stands on the great western slope of the region. In 2005, their daughter Cécile took over, expanding the estate to 20 acres, with ten in Gigondas, over seven in Sablet, and a bit in Vacqueyras. The vineyards, featuring 70% Grenache, 22% Syrah, and 8% Mourvèdre, boast an average vine age exceeding 65 years. Cécile's commitment to organic farming led to certification in 2012, though she withdrew due to neighboring conventionally farmed parcels causing potential trace chemical exposure. The estate's name, Bourjassot, honors Cécile's Sablet roots. Notably, Cécile emphasizes limestone-rich soils for inherent lift and minerality. The logo, a shield with a horse, reflects Pierre's passion, extending to the vineyard's Spanish harvester tradition, where Manuel and his family travel annually from Andalusia for grape picking.
